Total solar eclipse

The eclipse viewed through a finderscope
On 26 December 2019, there was a total solar eclipse. We went to NJC to view it. It was exciting as it was the first total solar eclipse I witnessed in Singapore, as the one in 2015 was only partial. We walked around to see the telescopes that were set up by the NJC students.

We had an early lunch and at 11:45 we went out to see the start of the eclipse. Totality was at 1:23. The sky gradually darkened. The ring of fire was seen at totality and could be seen through the clouds.

Before the eclipse, we watched an educational documentary about the Sun and how it emits light. The documentary talked about the Sun's history and what would happen in the future. We walked around the school to go to the field and watch the eclipse.

I felt happy to witness it as I had arrived back in Singapore only a few days prior. Another total solar eclipse over Singapore would only happen in 44 years, and wouldn't be as spectacular. It was the third solar eclipse of the year, a rare event.
