During the AOGS talks, some speakers came over to SST. They talked about Cassini, Pluto, and natural disasters.
For the talk on 29 July, Dr. Jack Kaye talked about the Earth's atmosphere and showed interesting pictures of the Earth's atmosphere.
During the talk on 30 July, Dr. Jim Green talked about ongoing Mars missions and the New Horizons mission to Pluto. New Horizons visited Jupiter for a gravitational assist before heading off to Pluto. The Pluto flyby took only a few hours and was very short. He also talked about current NASA missions to Mars and the Curiosity rover.
On 31 July, Prof Wing Ip talked about the Cassini mission, and how it gave greater insight on Titan's surface. There were not as many lakes as previously thought, and the Cassini mission discovered many moons of Saturn. It also took measurements of Saturn as well.
For the natural disasters and hazards talk on 1 August, Prof Bruce Malamud was the speaker. He talked about natural hazards and how they affect each other. One hazard can cause other hazards, but may not be activated by any other hazards. Some hazards can also happen without causing other side effects.
We also went to Suntec to go to its Hyperwall on 2 August. Some SST students also received some awards there. We also listened to talks on geology by university students from around the region.
I have learnt many things throughout the course of the week. Although I felt tired at times, it was a fun and energy-intense week.
